Could anyone direct me to a site or please let me know how to build a set of dog steps out of pvc piping?
I was looking around to buying a set for my chihuahua. I figured since he is small breed, that building a set for him out of pvc wouldn't be that costly. So,if anyone could help me out. I was looking to spend $30 or less
I think you would do better to use wood. We made them for our dog. You basically cut a piece of wood into a step shape (two or three capital letters Ls on top of each other to get as high as you need). Do it again for the other side.
Then lay a board across the bottom of each L and nail down. You can also lay one across the back of each L too, to make the steps have a closed back.
We then covered ours with a bath rug I bought cheap at Ross or Marshalls, and nailed it down too.
The main thing is, we found out, that if it's not 100% stable (if it wobbles) the dog will never feel safe and will not go up and down. So wood is the better use of your money.
Once you have the steps made, put them up against the sofa or the bed, whatever they're for, and put treats on them to entice your dog to try them out. Cheese or dry cat food works best for our guy.
Good luck; I think you're really great to want to do this. It makes a huge difference in the dog's quality of life, as dogs are pack-animals and want to be laying up against another member of the pack whenever possible.
Best wishes~
Chaddie
